The mark of an artist like Chef Ben Vaughn is that he constantly strives toward new creations. This is clear in Chef Ben Vaughn’s latest addition to Memphis restaurant culture, Au Fond Farmtable. Based on the philosophy of artful nutritious food from local producers at cafe prices, Chef Ben Vaughn has launched another eatery that is sure to make its mark on the Midtown Memphis scene.

Many patrons already associate Chef Ben Vaughn with his restaurant in Memphis, called Grace. Au Fond Farmtable, explains Chef Ben Vaughn, caters to a different niche. Chef Ben Vaughn says that Au Fond Farmtable is a counter service breakfast and luncheon house. At Chef Ben Vaughn’s Au Fond Farmtable, patrons can get brunch, coffee, dessert, or afternoon snacks, all at their own pace. Au Fond Farmtable offers the relaxed atmosphere of a cafe, adds Chef Ben Vaughn, with a menu of much greater range and quality than any cafe.

While Au Fond Farmtable operates on a scale of less formality and opulence than Grace restaurant, Chef Ben Vaughn makes sure the welcoming atmosphere and quality of the food are equally excellent. Customers order at the counter after reading from the quaint chalkboard menus that hang above. Chef Ben Vaughn believes in small menus with no mediocrity, so the chalkboards fit everything, and everything tastes fabulous.

From the formidable open-faced turkey sandwich to the delicate and savory charcuterie plate, Chef Ben Vaughn’s Au Fond Farmtable has something for every taste. For diners with more home-style palettes, says Chef Ben Vaughn, Au Fond Farmtable has a selection of gourmet comfort foods sure to please. It may be hard to choose, adds Chef Ben Vaughn, between the shrimp and grits or the red beans and rice with house made andouille sausage, but either way the results are delicious. Don’t forget a side of fried okra or delightfully dirty rice.

As an aspiring author and poet, Stephen Pitz believes that fine arts play a critical role in successful education. Recently choosing to end his teaching career in order to have more time to devote to his writing, Stephen Pitz asserts that a key part of the learning experience for students is an opportunity to use creativity. Fine arts are the best outlet for this type of thinking, according to Stephen Pitz.

Stephen Pitz also believes students tend to have better relationships with their peers when they participate in an extracurricular activity such as band or theatre. After experiencing firsthand the benefits of the fine arts, Stephen Pitz declares that often the longest-lasting friendships come from sharing a common love of an activity such as music or art. Stephen Pitz asserts that without keeping fine arts in school systems, this benefit would be lost.

Many other benefits are also associated with fine arts, adds Stephen Pitz. For example, according to Stephen Pitz, students involved in music and theatre programs tend to get into disciplinary trouble less often than those who do not participate. Stephen Pitz points out that students involved in fine arts generally get better grades in school. All of these are important reasons to keep arts programs in school, says Stephen Pitz.

As a former teacher, Stephen Pitz believes that taking fine arts programs away from schools would do more harm than good. Without such programs, the next generation of students to enter the work force will be less prepared in teamwork and creative thinking. These are the types of skills that people need to be successful, asserts Stephen Pitz. Creative talent, according to Stephen Pitz, is what produces some of best inventions and ideas in history. Stephen Pitz concludes that fine arts programs are essential to equip students for the real world.

In previous travel writings, James Smith has discussed the beauty and wonder of the Hawaiian Islands. Maui, in particular holds a special place in James Smith’s adventurous heart. But outdoor adventure and historic culture, insists James Smith, are not the only things Maui has to offer, not by a long shot. James Smith continues his description of the vacation delights of Maui, but here he gives due to Maui’s stimulating social life.

The Maui nightlife, says James Smith, is truly unique. Not only are there an abundance of bars and restaurants, but also James Smith reminds travelers that most of these establishments are situated on the tropical coast of Maui. James Smith loves to enjoy fresh caught seafood on a deck overlooking the tide. And what could be more satisfying, asks James Smith, than capping off a gourmet meal with a refreshing cocktail, serenaded by cool local music, and lavished by the warm coastal breeze blowing in off the Pacific? James Smith adds that a visitor can then follow up dinner with a night of traditional dance or more modern entertainment.

When the epicurean and evening culture of Maui slumbers under the bright beautiful sun, James Smith suggests a day of shopping. Shopping is the great modern past time, providing an outlet for even the most dedicated workaholics. James Smith finds the shopping in Maui to be as relaxing as it is inspiring. Travelers can be surrounded by boutiques and department stores, notes James Smith, offering the latest in high continental fashion and the most darling local contributions to gifts and apparel. To top it off, after a long day, James Smith suggests that visitors indulge in a bit of true Hawaiian pampering at one of Maui’s extraordinary spas.

James Smith concludes that Maui is a vacation hot spot for good reason. No matter what a traveler needs, whether it’s wildlife, wild waves, or wild fashions, it is all available in Maui. And with supreme spas and beaches, the relaxation is just as satisfying as the excitement.

Paul G. Hauf has learned that traditional bank lending channels block out a large population of potential borrowers. Paul G. Hauf, a small business broker with 30 years experiences, works on behalf of these borrowers. Many people who dream of owning their own business, says Paul G. Hauf, are unable to purchase one simply because they think only banks can help them. In the end, notes Paul G. Hauf, banks usually just want to help themselves.

With this in mind, Paul G. Hauf has spent much of his career building a lending platform that enables a maximum number of borrowers to secure the financing they need. Where banks only finance a tiny percentage of their applicants, Paul G. Hauf has found a way to help those diligent and hard working people that banks have nonetheless rejected.

With a distinguished business financing history, Paul G. Hauf helps prospective business owners secure their dreams. He does this by doing more than just finding the right businesses for sale. Paul G. Hauf also fairly values the business for sale, and connects clients with the right lending source for them. Often, points out Paul G. Hauf, the right lender for a client is not a bank at all.

Paul G. Hauf understands a buyer simply needs a source of financing that believes in that buyer’s enterprise. Because of this, Paul G. Hauf has created a large network of hundreds of private lenders. Some are banks and some are not, but all of them share his vision of empowering dedicated buyers who simply cannot get the attention of big bank lenders.

For the past 30 years, Paul G. Hauf has been providing financial and brokerage services to the most needy and deserving segment of America’s population. By helping clients that big banks refuse to help, Paul G. Hauf has created a reputation for himself as a champion of small business enterprises.

James Smith, businessman and social activist, understands the lifelong value of physical fitness training. A commitment to physical fitness provides a wellspring of energy, clarity, and well-being. Many admirers ask James Smith for fitness tips and techniques. He tells them what he tells everyone else. Fitness answers are simple – a good diet and regular exercise. Often, notes James Smith, those individuals love the idea of exercise but find it repetitive and boring. They don’t like to slog it out on the treadmill or lift weights over and over again.

Responding to requests for more variety in exercise, James Smith suggests a great fitness regime that also relives tons of stress. Beat the crap out of something. Though it may sound blithe, James Smith is serious. Martial arts classes can be a fantastic component of a personal fitness program. To back it up, James Smith cites a study conducted by Emory University. In this study, reports James Smith, college students were prescribed Tae Kwon Do classes. Those who participated in Tae Kwon Do exhibited decreased tension, anger, and depression. Additionally, participants showed increased vigor, higher energy levels, and greater clarity.

Tae Kwon Do is only one of many options, continues James Smith. Explore the martial arts schools, fitness centers and community centers in your city. All of these places, notes James Smith, are going to offer some kind of martial arts classes for various skill levels. James Smith likes martial arts training because it simultaneously develops several levels of fitness. In one Tae Kwon Do course, for example, a student works out their cardio, balance, and muscle training all together.

Martial arts training, says James Smith, is an exciting and effective alternative to repetitive run-of-the-mill workouts. By getting regular exercise in the form of martial arts classes, James Smith has observed that people have a better sense of their surroundings, improved balance, increased strength, and greater confidence. The only thing remaining, counsels James Smith, is to try it out for yourself.

Robert Martyna, CEO of Tradavo, gives a frank assessment of the fund raising process for entrepreneurs in the never-ending search for venture capitalist firms.

Entrepreneurs have to spend quality time choosing firms and partners who might be receptive to a pitch for investment, begins Robert Martyna. Once a list of firms is compiled, the hopeful entrepreneur will have to gauge just how to get in the door to deliver the pitch. Robert Martyna agrees that this is often a guessing game. Multiply all that time by 10 or 20 different firms and it’s possible to get a sense of just how time consuming this process can be.

Some firms, notes Robert Martyna, CEO of Tradavo, make things easy (or more difficult, depending on your perspective) by replying with a quick “No.” This helps many entrepreneurs get a move on to pitch to the next firm, but it also increases the run around and guesswork.

Robert Martyna says that this is the state of things when there is scarcity. There are more entrepreneurs than there are investment firms, in the same way that there are more unpublished authors than publishing houses. Things can be extremely challenging for a person on their first time out. However, once an entrepreneur gets backing or an author gets published, subsequent success becomes easier.

In light of this reality, Robert Martyna, CEO of Tradavo, can’t help you make your first time easier, but he does have food for thought. The system of entrepreneurs pitching to venture capital firms tends to make VCs to be the gatekeepers of innovation, instead of the entrepreneur themselves. Entrepreneurs, like Robert Martyna, have been consequently inspired to search out alternate means of raising the capital to build companies.

Robert Martyna has founded companies with and without raising venture capital. Acquiring venture capital can remove a significant amount of stress from the start up process, but it also adds new stress from the investors. Starting a company without venture capital can be fraught with anxiety, but Robert Martyna says that kind of stress is all positive. Building a company on your own, says Robert Martyna, leads to better cash efficiency, a deeper understanding of the market, and a more gradual, but perhaps solid and substantial growth.

Jerrold D. Bass has found that many common hair problems can be successfully treated with items found right on the shelf in your kitchen! Surprisingly, these remedies usually work nearly as well as many expensive salon products.

As the seasons change, you may notice that your hair becomes more oily or dry, dull or limp depending on your climate. Your hair may even thin out a bit; after all we’re similar to other mammals that way – we shed our hair in the spring and fall.

Jerrold D. Bass says not to worry. Even if you can’t get to the salon, you need look no further than the kitchen pantry. Most kitchens are stocked with basics that have the same active ingredients as many pricey hair salon therapies. In many cases, these home ingredients work just as well as a salon product specially formulated for that problem.

Problem: Oily Hair
Solution: Mint
Jerrold D. Bass explains that mint is a natural astringent. He suggests brewing five mint tea bags in a pot and letting it cool down. Then pour over your hair as a final rinse after shampoo and conditioner.

Problem: Dull Hair
Solution: Baking Soda
According to Jerrold D. Bass, baking soda lowers the pH of shampoo and seals the cuticle. To make dull hair shinier, mix 1 tsp. of baking soda with your favorite shampoo.

Problem: Dry Hair
Solution: Honey
Honey is a humectant that draws and traps moisture into dry hair. Jerrold D. Bass says to mix 1 Tbsp. of honey with 2 Tbsp. of shampoo and then wash your hair as you normally would.

Problem: Limp Hair
Solution: Rice
This trick is a favorite of Jerrold D. Bass. Why does it work? Well, rice protein expands the hair, making it look fuller. It’s easy: just soak a cup of rice in 2 cups of water overnight. In the morning, strain and transfer the liquid to a spray bottle. Then mist on damp hair before drying.

Problem: Thinning Hair or Hair That Won’t Grow
Solution: Basil
Basil promotes new growth by stimulating the scalp. Heat 1 Tbsp. of basil and 1/2 cup of olive oil in the microwave for 30 seconds. Let cool slightly and massage into scalp. Jerrold D. Bass says to leave it on the hair for approximately 15 minutes and then shampoo as normal.

Problem hair? Not a problem! Jerrold D. Bass suggests that you locate these common, everyday products, treat your hair and solve the problem for very little money!

Konrad Kafarski knows that starting a new business can be a terrifying adventure for even the most experienced business person. There are so many details and risks to account for, notes Konrad Kafarski, and yet he affirms that the entrepreneurial spirit prevails. If you have an entrepreneurial bent towards starting a business, you have much to consider, says Konrad Kafarski. Elements like the right product, enough financing, accounting, and legal representation are all critical components of getting a business going. Long before you need inventory, says Konrad Kafarski, you will need an experienced lawyer.

You’ll need an attorney, continues Konrad Kafarski, because the legal side of starting a business often has the most obscure and intimidating angles. Customers never see the legal end of your operations, says Konrad Kafarski, but your company could not exist without it. Before a business plan gets too far along, recruit the help you’ll need.

Konrad Kafarski notes that what often serves to snag a budding business proposition is the seemingly simple need to choose a business name. A name is not something to be taken lightly, adds Konrad Kafarski. Your business name will be at the core of your recognizability to customers. Konrad Kafarski knows it can be a challenge to choose a name that is short and recognizable, while still conveying the mission of your enterprise. Often entrepreneurs use the names of loved ones when naming their businesses. There are many options, agrees Konrad Kafarski.

Konrad Kafarski urges entrepreneurs not to overlook the legal issues that come with choosing a name for your business. The name you choose will be how you identify your company to the world. It will be emblazoned on all of your literature. Choose a name to be proud of, and choose one that will have longevity. Most importantly, says Konrad Kafarski, choose a name that you are sure you own.

The legal business of sorting out company names is under the umbrella of trademark law, explains Konrad Kafarski. Lawyers help business owners make sure that their name is unique and safe, so that no other entity will come along and lay claim to the name you have chosen. You may have heard horror stories about a large corporation squeezing out a small operation because that small business had the same or even a similar name as the corporation. By consulting with an experienced attorney during your naming process, Konrad Kafarski says that you can ensure that this fate does not befall your new business.

Cordia Harrington | ‘The Bun Lady’ of Nashville

Nashville, TN, October 11, 2009 – The American dream is punctuated with shining examples of perseverance and resourcefulness. Cordia Harrington is a long-standing, successful businesswoman with a knack for making lemonade out of lemons.

“There’s not an easy path for an entrepreneur,” explains Cordia Harrington, a Tennessee businesswoman affectionately regarded as The Bun Lady. “You have to be resourceful when faced with adversity.”

Cordia Harrington is known as The Bun Lady because she owns the Bun Company, a baking conglomerate supplying buns and English muffins to over 600 McDonald’s locations. And McDonald’s is only one of Cordia Harrington’s national and international clients.

Cordia Harrington has a resourceful, go-get-‘em attitude that has seen her through many tough times. She always turns a problem on its side and finds an imaginative solution. When working as a real estate agent as a single mom, Cordia Harrington needed to earn more to raise her kids. But she had difficulty ensuring that the homes for sale would even be finished on time. In response, she opened her own construction company to build the homes she was selling.

By taking responsibility and doing things herself, Cordia Harrington has forged a bright future for herself and for her family. She is a woman who faces problems head on, takes risks and works hard. In Cordia Harrington’s own words, “I cried a lot, but it paid off.”

About Cordia Harrington

Cordia Harrington is a shining example of the American dream. Cordia Harrington comes from sparse working class roots; her parents lived month-to-month, struggling to pay the bills. She always wore hand-me-down clothes. A big night out for the family was a monthly visit to the local McDonald’s restaurant.

Just like some of the greatest American rags-to-riches stories, Cordia Harrington is a woman who brought herself up from scanty beginnings. Her greatest asset was her will to achieve. When Cordia Harrington embarked on a business career as a real estate agent, she invested her life savings, $587, in a plywood sign and a rented office.

In those early Arkansas years, Cordia Harrington excelled so quickly in real estate that soon she was selling homes faster than the contractors could build them. This was Cordia Harrington’s first business challenge, and she solved it with a move that characterized her resourceful spirit.
